Monday morning, the day starts with a call from a customer. “During the installation of a critical bolt in a braking system, we see it is about to break. At the moment, high-speed trains run with these bolts in the same braking system. Those brakes could fail at any moment. This is an extreme emergency!”

The technical experts of the Quality & Engineering department at Fabory react immediately. Assessed for their mechanical properties in the customer's presence on the same day. Done in Fabory’s accredited laboratory. Examined are the tensile strength, the core hardness and decarburisation. All three are in order according to the requirements of ISO 898-1.

Erreur dans la méthode de montage

Pour que les boulons ne se desserrent pas par vibration, deux gouttes d'un frein filet sont appliquées. Une deuxième simulation sur le banc d'essai de friction en montre les conséquences. La combinaison du revêtement et du frein-filet correspondant abaisse le coefficient de frottement. Par conséquent, ils ont chargé les boulons bien au-delà de la limite d'élasticité lors de l'installation. La charge des boulons est encore inférieure à la résistance à la rupture. Malheureusement, ils sont resserrés et déformés. L'assemblage n'est plus sûr.

Un couple de serrage inférieur est alors inscrit dans les instructions de montage. Ils ont également rappelé les rames.
