Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines streamlines inventory management and production with Fabory Logic
In 2022, Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines set out to find a new supplier for its fasteners. After defining all the required items, Fabory implemented its Fabory Logic system at four Ganz locations. This set up and maintained an inventory of no fewer than 30 specialized and 180 standard items.
Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines: tradition and innovation in high-voltage equipment
Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines is one of the best-known names in the field of power generation and distribution. Ganz Electric's high-quality equipment, from transformers and steel structures to motors and generators, can be found in nearly every country around the world.
For the production of their transformers and other systems, the right bolts, nuts, and other fasteners are indispensable, since each piece of equipment contains countless fastening points that must align perfectly. With its own engineering department, Ganz Electric can quickly implement design changes, but that requires having the right components available on the assembly floor at the right time. Smart management of these C-parts (small, low-value components) is therefore crucial to prevent downtime and safeguard high product quality.
Implementing Fabory Logic at four locations
After the preparation phase, Fabory began rolling out the Fabory Logic concept at Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines. In practice, this means Fabory completely takes over the inventory management of small fasteners. A one-bin system was set up for regular consumables: each type of item received a single bin that is periodically checked and refilled by a Fabory merchandiser. Each week, the Fabory merchandiser comes by to scan the bins and replace or refill any that are empty. Thanks to this approach, Ganz Electric no longer has to monitor stock levels itself: Fabory ensures materials are delivered on time and placed into the empty bins, allowing the production process to continue uninterrupted.
For a number of critical fasteners, Ganz Electric opted for a two-bin system. In this setup, each item has two bins. As soon as the first bin runs empty, that empty bin serves as a signal to automatically generate a new order. In the meantime, production switches to the second bin, which serves as a buffer. By the time the new stock arrives, there is still sufficient material in the second bin to meet demand. This method (also known as a kanban system) is often used to maintain the correct stock level at all times without overstocking. The combination of one-bin (for regular replenishment) and two-bin (for critical parts that cannot risk any shortage) ensures that Ganz Electric always has the right amount of materials and that stock-outs are virtually eliminated.
Efficiency benefits: always the right stock and smoother production
Where previously, during busy periods, employees had to search for missing bolts or wait for rush deliveries, that is now a thing of the past. All required fasteners are neatly organized in Fabory bins, and Fabory keeps them replenished. “We no longer lose valuable time searching for missing parts. Everything we need is always in place, which gives us peace of mind on the shop floor,” says a production manager at Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines.
This means Ganz Electric's employees spend far less time managing these small parts or fixing material shortages. “Our team can now fully focus on production instead of chasing inventory issues. That makes us faster, more efficient, and ultimately more reliable for our customers,” adds a colleague from the sourcing department.
They can focus even more on their core tasks in production. The result is more efficient assembly with virtually no unexpected downtime due to missing materials. With the guarantee of always having the right stock, production continuity is ensured, which contributes to a higher delivery reliability for Ganz Electric's customers.
