AVR Partnership with Fabory

At AVR’s manufacturing facility in Roeselare, Belgium, reliable access to fasteners is essential to keeping agricultural machinery production moving. Seasonal demand, approximately 1,000 different items in circulation and increasingly sophisticated machines mean inventory needs to be managed efficiently.

AVR sources approximately 99.5% of the bolts, nuts and couplings used in its agricultural machinery from Fabory. By combining reliable fastener supply with Fabory Logic, AVR has created a more structured inventory process that reduces the time employees spend tracking and ordering stock.

The challenge: seasonal demand and around 1,000 items

AVR develops and manufactures agricultural machinery for a market where reliability and machine availability are critical. Production is also highly seasonal, which means demand for individual fasteners can increase significantly during busy periods.

With around 1,000 different items in circulation, manually tracking stock levels and placing orders would require significant time from AVR employees. During busy periods, employees previously had to search through pallets themselves to find the materials they needed.

AVR therefore needed a more structured approach that would make essential components easier to access and reduce the amount of time employees spent managing inventory.

Keeping production in the correct sequence

AVR produces approximately 1,000 agricultural machines each year. Many of these machines are built for demanding applications and need to perform reliably within relatively short seasonal windows.

Component availability is important because missing parts can disrupt the correct production sequence. If a required component is unavailable, work may need to be completed later after other assemblies are already in place, adding unnecessary complexity to production.

Reliable access to the right fasteners therefore helps AVR keep work moving through production in the intended sequence.

Two-bin replenishment with Fabory Logic

Fabory Logic supports AVR with a Vendor Managed Inventory approach designed to simplify the replenishment of frequently used fasteners and C-parts.

AVR uses a two-bin inventory method. During regular visits, the Fabory merchandiser checks consumption and scans empty bins. The required products are then replenished as part of the managed process.

This reduces the need for AVR employees to continuously monitor individual stock levels or manually initiate every order. Instead, frequently used fasteners are managed through a structured replenishment process that supports product availability while reducing administrative work.

The right fastener for the right function

Efficient inventory management is only part of the requirement. AVR also depends on selecting the correct fasteners for demanding mechanical applications.

Property class 8.8 fasteners are widely used across AVR machinery, while higher-loaded applications such as wheel axles can require property class 10.9. Shear bolts are used in applications where controlled failure can help protect machinery if, for example, a tiller encounters a stone.

The design of the fastener can also influence the product being handled. AVR uses rounded-head fasteners in specific areas where reducing the risk of damage to potatoes is important.

These examples show how even relatively small components can contribute to machine reliability, protection and performance.

Developing increasingly precise agricultural machinery

AVR continues to develop more automated and precise agricultural machinery. New technologies can include systems that help control the application of fertilisers or pesticides, while machines also need to remain intuitive and straightforward for operators to use.

As new functionality is developed, AVR’s R&D team regularly evaluates the fasteners needed for new applications. This creates an ongoing requirement for both reliable product availability and appropriate fastening solutions.

Proactive inventory optimisation

The Fabory approach at AVR goes beyond replenishing empty bins. Consumption data provides insight into which items are high runners and which move more slowly, helping AVR make better decisions about the products held in inventory.

Fabory can also advise whether specific products should continue to be stocked and help incorporate materials from alternative suppliers into the inventory setup where appropriate.

This proactive approach helps keep the inventory system aligned with AVR’s changing production requirements while providing greater visibility of actual consumption.

The result: less time managing inventory, more time producing machines

With around 1,000 different items in circulation, the time required to monitor and order stock can quickly add up. The Fabory Logic two-bin approach reduces this workload and allows AVR employees to spend more time on their core production activities.

Regular replenishment, better insight into consumption and reliable access to frequently used fasteners give AVR a more structured and predictable way to manage inventory.

For AVR, the Fabory Logic cabinets have become an important part of supporting efficient modern production.
